One protester hurled a red liquid at Police Commissioner Bill Bratton in Times Square.
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
Amid a mostly peaceful march and protest in New York City after the announcement of the grand jury's decision in the killing of Michael Brown, at least one protester hurled a red liquid at Police Commissioner Bill Bratton in Times Square, according to several accounts.
Photos circulating on Twitter show Bratton with some streaks of red on his face, but another man -- likely a plainclothes police official in Bratton's entourage -- appeared to have taken the brunt of the tossed liquid, which resembled blood, according to Fox 5's Stacey Delikat.
Police officers scrambled to take the liquid-tosser into custody while other officers escorted Bratton away from the scene. On Tuesday, Bratton said the protester was arrested on an assault charge.
A photographer at the scene was also covered in the red liquid.
Earlier, the protesters had gathered in Union Square Monday night to await the announcement of the grand jury's decision the shooting of Brown, an unarmed teenager, in Ferguson, Mo. The grand jury declined to indict the officer, Darren Wilson.
The protesters then marched uptown to Father Duffy Square in Times Square, walking in the street through traffic. They carried dozens of signs. One read "Indict and jail killer cops" and "Hands up! Don't shoot!" Another read "Resistance is justified."
The march was mostly peaceful, according to reporters, witness and video from live feeds (including SkyFoxHD), but a few minor scuffles broke out followed by the fake blood incident.
Meantime, the Rev. Al Sharpton called the decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson "an absolute blow," the AP reported.
