GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

A mother tells FOX 5 her first grader was molested by an older student at a Gwinnett County elementary school.

FOX 5 has confirmed officials at Sycamore Elementary School are investigating those claims.

The mother says she moved her family to Gwinnett County because the school s were ranked number one. Dreams of a better education have turned into a nightmare after she says her daughter was inappropriately touched on two separate occasions by an older boy. The mother says it happened inside the bathroom at Sycamore elementary.

“She was embarrassed about it. I think maybe scared about it, but she was really initially embarrassed about it,” said the victim's mother.

Gwinnett County Schools confirm they are investigating an incident involving one student allegedly molesting another.

The victim's mother says she got suspicious when her daughter became frightened to attend school. The mother tells FOX 5's Trevor Shirley a trip to the hospital confirmed that some kind of incident had happened.

The mother says she has met with school officials twice. The district confirms those meetings did happen and officials say they take these type of allegations very seriously. The mother tells FOX 5 Sycamore's principal has assured her the investigation will be thorough.
