Dad Accused Of Leaving Kids In Car To Go To Bar

Posted: Updated:

OCALA, Fla. – A Florida dad is under arrest for allegedly leaving his young kids alone in car while he went to drink, police say. And he was busted thanks to other bar patrons.

According to Ocala police, a female patron of Dr. B's discovered three kids alone, unsupervised, in a gold Cadillac in the parking lot.

According to a police report, she heard the three children yelling for "daddy" and honking the horn.

One of the children told police, according to the report, their father left them inside with the windows up the keys in the ignition for hours.

So, the woman went back inside to find dad.

That's when, according to police, bouncers followed 28-year-old father Joshua Delong out to the parking lot and told him to not drive because he'd been drinking.

And that's when an unknown bar patron walked up to Delong and hit him in the face, knocking him down onto the pavement.

"The bouncers did the right thing," said another bar patron, Diane Taylor. "They did what they were supposed to do,and they wouldn't let him drive with the children. They told him he could not be here, and … that's what I heard, they offered to get him a cab."

In this report, Delong claims the man called him a derogatory name for leaving his kids in the car. He also claims he didn't know his kids were in the car, that his wife put the kids there to set him up.

But according to the officer who wrote the report, when he took Delong to the hospital he heard Delong's own mother tell him to tell stop lying and tell the truth for the sake of his kids.

Delong had been out to dinner earlier in the night with his mom and kids here at Terry's Bar and Grill. When they left, grandma tells police she thought her son was taking the kids home.

Taylor, another patron at Terry's Bar and Grill, said, "I wouldn't leave my pets in the car on a cool afternoon, so I certainly wouldn't leave my children there."

Police are still looking for the man who hit Delong, FOX's Tracy Jacim reports.

One of the most surprising findings in a report from the New York City public advocate is that city officials have virtually no authority over how nail salons are run. The city can't enforce standards like they do with restaurants, so it's clearly a case of beauty buyer beware. We get our nails done without thinking too much about it.
