5 Minnesota State Fair foods that make the most money

Posted: Updated:
FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (KMSP) -

There's a big misconception about food vendors at the Minnesota State Fair. Many people think you can set up a booth, work 12 days and make a pile of cash. But aside from a lot of hard work, it also takes some luck.

There's about 300 food vendors each year and only 3 or 4 leave each year. Vendors are on one-year contracts, so there's no guarantee of a return next year.

Top 5 money makers at the Minnesota State Fair
*2013 earnings

1. Sweet Martha's Cookies: $2,427,431

2. Midwest Dairy Milk: $851,761

3. Mouth Trap Cheese Curds: $815,950

4. Fresh French Fries: $711,786

5. Corn Roast: $605,013

How much does the Fair get?

The Minnesota State Fair gets about 15 percent of the revenue that booths bring in.
