Philly Planning Celebration To Honor Taney Dragons, Mayor Says

Posted: Updated:

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The magical run has come to an end for the Taney Dragons at the Little League World Series.

The team had one last chance to advance last night against a team from Chicago.

Taney scored two runs in the first inning to take the early lead.

Chicago put the next six runs on the board.

Taney would mount a comeback late, but it wasn't enough. Chicago won the game six to five.

Despite the loss, as one of their biggest fans explained, this team has given Philly a lot to be proud of.

"I don't think they understand the magnitude of what it is they have been able to accomplish, for themselves and for the entire city of Philadelphia," said Phillies first-baseman Ryan Howard.

Mayor Michael Nutter says the city is already planning a celebration to honor the Dragons in the near future.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell spoke to fans and team parents after the game and has those interviews in the above video report.

Back home, Taney fans gathered Thursday night in City Hall to watch the game. The Phillie Phanatic helped get the crowd pumped-up for the game and, once things got started, they were all on the edge of their seats.

FOX 29's Drew Dickman was there for the party and spoke with fans, who say they are still proud of their team. When the game ended, all the fans in room stood up and applauded the team for a job well done.
