Nancy Writebol's Husband and 2 Missionary Doctors Return to Charlotte

Posted: Updated:
3 missionaries who were on the ground, fighting the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, are now back in Charlotte.

Among them is Charlotte missionary Nancy Writebol's husband, David, along with 2 missionary doctors.

SIM, the organization the Writebol's served with, flew them in late Sunday night.

They are all under quarantine now staying in RV at SIM's campus near Steele Creek

The 3 of them can't have any physical contact, can't hug people and can't eat at common dining areas.

Staff will bring them their meals.

Under quarantine, they can play games and watch movies.

Doctors will check their temperature 4 times a day.

Doctors checked them for Ebola like symptoms before they left Liberia and were also examined by doctors upon arrival, and given the green light.

So far, SIM has brought back 5 adults and 6 minors from Liberia.

They still have more than 100 people there including 2 ex patriots.

“The 2 doctors returned because they've worked on the Ebola situation for weeks and needed a break – they need a physical and emotional break and have watched people die from this emotional disease,” said SIM president, Bruce Johnson.

“Quarantine means we limit people who have been exposed to a disease but are not ill,” said Mecklenburg County Health Department Dr. Stephen Keener.

Nancy's husband, David, wasn't available for comment because he's still in quarantine. That process typically takes 3 weeks but could have already started in Liberia.

He plans to visit Nancy at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, who has now been there for nearly a week.

No word yet on Nancy's conditions or how long she'll be there, but those who have talked to her say she is improving and even asked for a Starbucks coffee.
