Detroit woman, 69, tased and robbed by attacker

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - "It sounded like an electric shock and I kept hearing that," said a woman who did not want her face shown on camera.

She lives on Savanna off of Woodward and woke up to the sound of a woman being tased.

"Then I kept hearing, 'Help, somebody, help me.'" The cries for help were heard a little before 6:30 Monday morning.

Police say a man in his mid 20s robbed the woman, stealing her purse that contained medication, credit cards and about $900.

The victim was 69 years old.

Police say the man used his Taser on the the woman on her neck, causing her to fall to the ground. He even kicked her while she was down before riding off on his bike.

No one got a good look at the man who robbed the woman. Police say he may strike again.

"There was a Taser used, so obviously if we see that pattern now, we'll maybe have something additional to go on, so hopefully we'll be able to solve this in the very near future," says Detroit Deputy Chief Darryl Brown.

Police say the man is about 5-foot-8 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. He has a medium brown complexion and was wearing a black hoodie and black pants.

If you know anything you're asked to call Detroit Police at (313) 596-2200.

Shirley Hull is about the same age as the victim and is coming to grips with the fact that criminals are just as likely to prey on the old as they are the young.

"Knowing that I live here, and that something like that can take place," Hull said. "It's scary."

No one got a good look at the man who robbed the woman and sadly he may strike again before he's caught.

Police say they're investigating a large brawl that broke out at the end of a wedding reception held over the weekend at a suburban Buffalo country club. Officials tell local media that seven different police agencies were called in late Saturday to break up the fight at the Orchard Park Country Club. Officers say dozens of the approximately 200 guests were involved in the melee, which broke out after a member of the wedding party was tossed off the premises for inappropriate behavior.

Law enforcement officials from coast to coast say street gangs are shying away from wearing their colors and are covering up or even altering their tattoos to avoid detection by police.  Hartford, Connecticut, Police Sgt. Johnmichael O'Hare says gone are the days when the Bloods wore red from head to toe. All you'll see now, he says, is maybe a red handkerchief sticking out of a back pocket.
