After nearly a decade, the wait is just about over. On Saturday, Phase 1 of the much anticipated Silver Line will start running. But perhaps the most important job is the person who will be behind the controls of the inaugural train.

TYSONS CORNER, Va. -

We are just hours away from the first Metro train to roll on the Silver Line. The long-awaited track runs from Largo to Reston with future service to Dulles.

Metro isn’t the only one counting down until this service begins at noon Saturday. When it happens, Tysons Corner Center and area businesses nearby are hoping to expand with a lot more profit.

Silver Diner is just feet from the new Silver Line. They are quite excited and expecting increased business with this new train service. It is one of many Tysons Corner businesses near the mall who have been waiting for this financial ride of a lifetime.

The diner plans to be fully staffed when the first Metro trains roll their way.

Tysons Corner has always been a popular place, but to get here from D.C. and Maryland has always taken people some time.

“Normally it takes about 45 minutes in the morning, but now it will get me here very fast,” said Metro rider Yvonne Smith.

And with the new trains, these commuters are expected to save a lot of money and stress behind the wheel.

The first train leaves the Wiehle-Reston East station at noon with dignitaries on board. A few minutes later, a train will leave the Largo station.

And as of noon, anyone will be able to ride the line.
