Woman, 19, seriously injured in hit-and-run boating accident

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - Watercraft was everywhere on Lake St. Clair the Fourth of July. Nineteen-year-old Courtney Kleiner was riding on a jet ski when, out of nowhere, it was hit by a boat.

"The boat that struck her, you know, left the scene," says her father, Richard Kleiner. He says his daughter was lying in the water, lethargic and unresponsive.

Three men were inside the boat and apparently not one of them stayed to make sure Courtney would be ok. One of them is said to have shouted, 'You're going to fine!", before the boat sped away, leaving Courtney to count on others to come to her rescue.

"It's terrible! I'm a boater, I'm a human being and I certainly wouldn't do that to you, your mother, your daughter, your father or anyone else," says Richard.

Courtney has a son, Landon, who is staying with Richard while she remains in critical condition in intensive care. She is hooked up to several machines and is on several medication.

"She had liver damage, kidney damage, lung damage," says Richard.

He is pleading with the people to who put her here to come forward. He is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the suspects.
