911 Dispatcher Takes Emergency Call From Her Own Home

Posted: Updated:

MARYSVILLE, CA- An emergency dispatcher was put to the test as she fielded a 911 call from her own home with her son's life at stake.

Baby Maverick, his mom and dad are happy and smiling - now.

But just six weeks ago, it was a different story.

"It's something that I never wanted to take," dispatcher Britney Melchor said of the call.

While training another dispatcher for Marysville Police, Maverick's mom Britney, had to alert first responders to an emergency unfolding at her own home.

The caller was Mavericks dad, Robert Kimball after a washer became lodged in his 14-month-old's throat.

You could hear from her voice Maverick's mom was in tears so many thoughts running through her head, doing her job and making sure her son was ok.

An X-ray from the hospital showed the object inside the toddler. He stopped breathing and dad, even after the 911 call, didn't give up.

"I finally dislodged it on my own," said Kimball.

From that point on maverick was able to breathe and now he and his parents are breathing a sigh of relief, happy that baby maverick will grow up with a miraculous story to tell about his mom who took a deep breath, and dispatched help to save his life.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
