Tollway warns customers of overdue toll phishing scam

Posted: Updated:

The Illinois Tollway is warning customers about a phishing scam using the E-ZPASS logo in emails claiming recipients owe money for missed tolls.

In the alert issued Thursday, the tollway authority advised customers to disregard emails being sent from “E-ZPASS Collection Agency.”

The E-ZPASS Group, an association of 25 toll agencies in 15 states that operates electronic toll collection programs, has said the email is a phishing scam, according to the alert. The scam has not compromised any I-Pass accounts.

About 100 customers have alerted the tollway that they’ve received the email, spokeswoman Wendy Abrams said.
