State orders closure of daycare after playground death

Posted: Updated:
ALPHARETTA, Ga. -

An Alpharetta daycare has until Monday afternoon to appeal a state order to shut down.

The Department of Early Care and Learning says Miss Janna’s Home Child Care has been cited for safety violations before, but the residential daycare is facing serious scrutiny after a three-year-old boy died on the playground.

Alpharetta police and fire were called to a residential address Tuesday.

The daycare is located on Shady Grove Lane.

Firefighters arrived to an adult female performing CPR on a child in the yard. Investigators think the child accidentally strangled himself with twine while playing on a slide.

The child passed away Thursday morning.
