Misty Copeland: 'There Is A Balance That I Will Bring'

Posted: Updated:

Ballerina Misty Copeland stops by Good Day LA. She has a new gig co-hosting on FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance."

Misty is an inspiration to the competitors on the show because she is known as the first African-American soloist in two decades at the prestigious American Ballet Theatre.

Misty made history in 2007 when she attained the coveted distinction of soloist with the theatre.

Since then she has used her position to step forward as a strong and inspiring voice for change, becoming a champion for dancers of color to give them more access to the traditional world of classical ballet.

The numbers prove just how serious of a challenge Copeland is taking on: Of the 370 female ballet dancers in the most prestigious dance companies, there are just 25 women of color.

With her dance experience and inspiration to achieve her goals despite the obstacles, it should be fun to see how Misty’s guidance will help the dancers this season.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE airs Wednesdays (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
