NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Police are asking for the public's help tracking down a man caught on video punching another man in the face reportedly over a dog.

The suspect is seen approaching his victim and striking him with a closed fist.

The victim falls to the ground hitting his head as the suspect runs off.

The NYPD says the violent incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at W. 55th St. and 9th Ave. in Manhattan.

The injured man was reportedly walking his small dog when the suspect stepped on the animal as he passed the pair, reported the NY Post. An argument ensued that ended with the assault.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.
