CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - The great thing about Chicago is its diversity - from unique neighborhoods, to music to food you couldn't ask for more in a city! From July 9 until July 13, people can make their way to Grant Park to get a little "Taste of Chicago."

The Taste of Chicago, running from Wednesday through Sunday, July 13, is expected to attract large crowds to Grant Park. The annual festival will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Those who attend the Taste will hear a variety of music while they eat. AWOLNATION and Saints of Valory are expected to take the stage Wednesday night to kickoff the festival. Janelle Monae and Gary Clark Jr. will headline Thursday night, and Aloe Blacc and the Wailers will wrap up the Taste Concert Series on Sunday.

Also new this year, people can renew their driver's license or register to be an organ donor while they devour giant turkey legs and other treats. Secretary of State Jesse White announced Tuesday his office will have a booth at the event, which starts Wednesday in Grant Park.

White says his office is partnering with the city of Chicago to provide the convenience to motorists.

People may renew or change the address on their driver's license, get a new state ID card or buy a vehicle registration sticker. They also can register to vote or apply for a specialty license plate. Services will be provided at the Secretary of State's mobile unit from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The festival is expected to cause several traffic delays, the Office of Emergency Management and Communications said in a statement. Streets around Grant Park have been closed for Taste of Chicago preparation and will remain in place through Monday, July 14.

The following street closures are in place and will be closed through Monday, July 14:

  • Columbus Drive, from Monroe to Balbo and Balbo to Roosevelt.
  • Jackson Boulevard, from Michigan to Lake Shore Drive.
  • Congress Parkway, from Columbus to Congress Parkway semi-circle.
The OEMC said it highly recommends people use public transportation to get to the Taste. The CTA will be adding more service, which can be found at www.transitchicago.com.

Public parking will be available at the Millennium Garage at 5 S. Columbus Dr., OEMC said.

Going off to college is an exciting time for the entire family, especially for the upcoming freshman. But with technology, parents can be in touch all the time. What's too much and what's just enough? Freshman move-in day seems to be harder on the parents than the students at Stony Brook University.
