DeKalb Co. murder trial continues

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

The second day of testimony wrapped up Wednesday in the trial of a man accused of killing a 19-year-old. The jury heard from a number of witnesses and also heard from people who say they are reluctant to testify.

Marcus Ventrus is on trial in DeKalb County for the fatal shooting of Ryan Guider who was killed May, 26 2012, in front of an apartment complex near Wesley Chapel Road.

Days after Guider was killed, tempers flared and two groups opened fire at his funeral which left two other young men dead.

DeKalb Police say crime scene evidence suggested Delmetrius Heard and Carlos Henderson Junior fatally wounded each other.

The tensions and fears from that terrifying funeral two years ago have spilled over to the trial, leaving some witnesses afraid to testify in Ventrus’ murder trial.

Several witnesses say they heard Guider identify Ventrus as the man who shot him. One prosecution witness admitted she didn’t show up to court because she was afraid.

For the safety of all the witnesses in the trial, Judge Barrie has instructed their names and faces not be shown.
