Laura Smith grew up watching the space program evolve.

"I was born in 1958. I watched the first man walk on the moon," said Smith.

Two science teachers from the area were selected to be astronauts for a week at Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. It's part of a program designed to push "math and science" studies into hyper-drive.
The experience itself? out of this world.

"It was fun!  you feel like a kid when you are doing those things, people were going woo and yelling," said science teacher, Michelle Ellis.

Ellis and Smith joined teachers from around the world to get a taste of space. They got to throw on spacesuits and go through the some of the same training as astronauts.

"It was always a challenge of some sort that we were doing, whether you were doing simulations, lunar challenge," said Ellis.

"Just kind of floating away like this and trying to fix the space tiles on the shuttle, having to use teamwork so that we wouldn't float away," said Smith.

Both teachers plan to incorporate this experience with their everyday classroom lessons.

"It's going to come back into my classroom. My flight suit is going to be hanging on my door. I going to have my students create a mission patch which is something we did as a team," said Smith.

Ellis and Smith hope their enthusiasm will help some future astronauts lift-off.

"It's not over.   It's not just the international space station which i watch everytime it goes over my house. There are new challenges," said Smith.

Challenges that bring a new meaning to the quote "Reach for the moon, because even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."

Report: health risks at some nail salons

    Monday, September 15 2014 10:28 PM EDT2014-09-16 02:28:27 GMT
One of the most surprising findings in a report from the New York City public advocate is that city officials have virtually no authority over how nail salons are run. The city can't enforce standards like they do with restaurants, so it's clearly a case of beauty buyer beware. We get our nails done without thinking too much about it.
