Detention officer reinstated after fight with inmate

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A DeKalb County detention officer is back on the job after getting into a fight with an inmate.

The incident was captured on surveillance video.

Several employees who work at the DeKalb County Jail tell FOX 5 the fist fight between Officer Anthony Dozier and a DeKalb inmate should have ended with the loss of Dozier’s job as a detention officer.

In a “use of force” document obtained by FOX 5, Sergeant Anton Baptise reports that Dozier told him the inmate refused to comply with instructions to tuck in his shirt, take his hands out of his pants and return to the cell.

In his report, Baptise says the inmate refused to put his arms behind his back to be handcuffed and attempted to grab Dozier’s deputy belt. Baptise says he tasered the inmate, causing him to fall to the floor, but the sergeant goes on to say Officer Dozier continued to attack the inmate after the inmate was tasered.

FOX 5 learned the inmate was treated for injuries to his head and face.

Dozier was placed on administrative leave then was reinstated to the position of Detention Technician.

Other officers tell FOX 5 it is blatant favoritism considering other officers have been fired for similar misconduct.
