Only On Fox: Mother Of Girl Injured In Chester Gunfire Speaks

CHESTER, Pa. -

A gunman is accused of shooting five people, including two teenagers on a Chester basketball court just after midnight on Wednesday.

It happened on the 800 block of West Congress Street.

Fox 29's Dave Schratwieser spoke with the mother of one of the victims.

Stephanie Hedgebeth was frustrated and upset Wednesday morning after her 14-year-old daughter was caught in a hail of gunfire while she was outside playing basketball with some friends. Four others were also shot.

“Whoever did it, what you do in the dark will come out in the light. These are kids, innocent kids that you are all out here shooting,” said Hedgebeth.

Garcella Hedgebeth was reported in stable condition at Crozer-Chester Medical Center after she and the other victims were raced to the hospital. Hedgebeth says her daughter now faces surgery for a gunshot wound to her ankle.

“She's in a lot of pain. And I'm just mad this town is just full of violence,” she said.

According to police, another teenager and three men were also wounded. They were standing around and shooting baskets at the street basketball hoop when the shots rang out.

“My daughter just graduated 8th grade, going to the 9th grade, she plays basketball, she plays football,” said Hedgebeth. “She's a straight A, B student. She gets in no trouble at all.”

Investigators believe the shots came from the 800 block of nearby Tilghman Street. There were reports of another shooting nearby just a half an hour earlier. There is no word on a motive for this shooting.

“Anybody in Chester who knows something, please come forward and bring these people to justice,” said Hedgebeth.

Hedgebeth says she and her daughter just participated in a march against violence and now the 14-year-old, soon to be high school freshman, lies wounded in the hospital.

“It's a shame she's laying up in the hospital with four other people who didn't do anything,” she said.

Anyone with information can contact Chester Detective Division at 610-447-8433 or CID Detectives at (610) 891-4700.

Everyone hates long lines at security checkpoints and the TSA knows it. Now the TSA is sponsoring a contest to encourage anyone with new ideas about how to make the airport security lines go faster. Often for air travelers, the security checkpoint experience is the worst part of their trip. That's why the TSA turned to the crowdsourcing site Innocentive asking for ideas pledging a total of $15,000 in prize money, with at least one $5,000 award.
