NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - A man opened fire inside a building in the industrial area of Gowanus in Brooklyn on Monday injuring two people and then killed himself, police said.

There was a massive police response at 13th St. and Hamilton Pl. following the shooting near Park Slope at about 11:17 a.m.

The shooter had walked into an iron shop looking for a job. After shooting two people, he barricaded himself inside a back office for two hours and then committed suicide, according to the New York Post. Police had tried to convince him to surrender peacefully.

The shooting victims were taken to a local hospital and were expected to recover.

The shootings come after a particularly violent weekend in New York City.

Nine people were shot in Brooklyn, five in Manhattan, five in the Bronx, one in Queens and one on Staten Island.
