Body pulled from Lake Michigan possibly missing woman

The body of a woman found in Lake Michigan Saturday evening is possibly that of a boater missing since May 31, authorities said. The Chicago Police Marine Unit pulled the woman’s body from the water east of Navy Pier about 6:15 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The woman, who was not identified Sunday afternoon, was in her 20s, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said. According to the autopsy, she may one of two people who went missing after the boat they were on capsized about 8 p.m. May 31 several miles off 31st Street.

Ashley Haws, a 26-year-old attorney, was found about 10 a.m. June 1 floating several miles away. She was wearing a life preserver, the Sun-Times reported. The cause of death was hypothermia, according to the medical examiner’s office. The 33-foot motorboat’s owner, 30-year-old Orest Sopka, is still missing.A fourth passenger on the boat survived, authorities said.
