Union Says Showboat Casino To Announce Closing Today

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -

The Showboat Casino in Atlantic City is expected to issue notices Friday to its employees announcing plans to close.

Unite Here Local 54's Bob McDevitt tells FOX 29 News that the hotel and casino will notify workers that it's closing.

About 2,500 people work for the Showboat.

McDevitt says the business is still profitable and equates the closure with a criminal act against the people of Atlantic City.

It's worth mentioning that Showboat is right next to the Revel, which is also in trouble financially.

There's no official comment yet from Showboat.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley has more details in this video report.
