Wrong photos on new Arizona licenses, ADOT blames software glitch

Posted: Updated:
There was a lot of strong reaction when ADOT announced they were going to change the Arizona Driver's License. People were not happy with the new design, and now there are new complications.

Several people had reportedly received their new licenses in the mail and had to send them back because it was someone else's photo on the card.

MVD says that at least eight people have received the new licenses by mail with a different photo.

The MVD started using the new system to process driver's licenses and ID cards less than two weeks ago and already there are complaints.

"A person's information was correct, it was mailed to the right customer, but it did have the wrong photo and signature," said Tim Tait with ADOT.

A woman notified ADOT of the mixup earlier this week; ADOT blames the mistakes on a computer glitch.

"And the computer system wasn't closing out some of the files, so when the picture was taken the next customer would have their picture taken, and it would attach to the last customers file. So it was really an issue with how the camera and computer system interacted," said Tait.

ADOT switched to the new technology to make it harder for bad guys to create fake ID's, they included features like holograms and raised dates of birth, things that cannot be made at the MVD.

ADOT says they've gone through the computer system and have identified eight people who received licenses with the wrong photo and signature. If you notice an error on your new drivers license, you're asked to call your local MVD office.
