Woman Banned From Memphis Zoo After Attempting To Feed Lions Cookies

Posted: Updated:

Memphis, TN-A woman got herself banned from the Memphis Zoo after she tried to sneak into the lion's den to feed the animals cookies.

Other zoo visitors alerted security after they saw the woman jumping over several barriers to get to the lion's enclosure.

Witnesses say they also heard the woman singing to the lions.

Luckily, the animals didn't attack their new visitor, and seemed as surprised as the humans were by her strange behavior.

"We had a visitor who decided that she would really just like to get closer to our lions, decided to serenade them, and even feed them a cookie or two," said Communications Specialist for the Memphis Zoo Laura Doty.

Doty says it's a rare occurrence.

"From what we understand from visitor eye witnesses, their accounts. She basically got over one of many barriers, and proceeded to try to feed a cookie to some of our lions, yesterday we had some of our young ones out. They were themselves spooked because they didn't recognize her and kind of backed away," said Doty. "Visitors were also alarmed because you're not supposed to be behind the barriers and they alerted our security staff and she was escorted out."
