Two shot and killed in Gary

GARY, Ind. (FOX 32 News) -

Two men were found shot and killed in northwest Indiana early Thursday.

Police responded to a call of shots fired in the 1600 block of West 5th Avenue about 1:30 a.m. and received more calls for the area, including a report of a man down, Gary Police Cpl. Gabrielle King said.

Daven James, 17; and Darrien Eftes, 23, both suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were dead at the scene, according to the Lake County Coroner’s office.

An autopsy conducted Thursday indicated James, of the 200 block of Pierce Street in Gary, died from gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the Lake County Coroner’s office.

Police received some reports that there was “some sort of gathering” in that block before the shooting happened, but it was unclear whether it was in a home or on the street, King said. It appears the shooting happened outside, King said.

Anyone with information should call Detective James Nielsen at (219) 881-4754 or Detective Daryl Gordon at (219) 881-4750.
