Rock Hill Remembers Civil Rights Anniversary

Posted: Updated:

Wednesday, members of the Freedom Summer Initiative in Rock Hill put on an event to remember the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights movement.

The event hosted state and city leaders, South Carolina NAACP President Lonnie Randolph, Jr. and friends from the community.

“I’m really hoping to motivate and empower people in the community who may have been sitting around asking ‘What can I do?’” said Wakita Barksdale.

There were games for children, speakers, question and answer sessions, along with guest appearances.

People attending also listened to personal stories of those who lived through the Civil Rights Movement.

“I have several memories that are fresh in my mind,” said South Carolina NAACP President, Lonnie Randolph, Jr.

Barksdale said one of the main goals was to teach children about their history.

Andy along with 30 other artists and 45 Technicolor models paraded around several Manhattan hotspots over the weekend for NYC Body Painting day. Believe or not, this is completely legal in New York City.
