DETROIT (AP) -- Police stepped in to maintain order outside a courtroom Wednesday after relatives of two missing children argued with the family of a man who is charged with covering up the murder of their mother.

Timothy Jones is accused of knowing about the fatal shooting of Alicia Fox and assisting the killer after it occurred. Fox's body was found June 9, but her two children remain missing.

Her estranged husband, Erin Justice, has been charged with first-degree murder in Fox's death.

Jones, 27, briefly appeared in court to waive a key hearing about evidence against him. It means he'll go directly to trial on a charge of being an accessory, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Outside the courtroom, police intervened as tension and voices rose among Jones' family and relatives of the missing siblings, Kaylah Hunter, 6, and 8-month-old Kristian Justice. They were escorted away separately.

Jones must post $5,000 to get out of jail, an amount that was challenged as too high by defense attorney Randall Upshaw.

Prosecutors "want to pimp him, leave him in jail, when any other individual would be out of jail," Upshaw complained to Judge Ruth Carter.

But assistant prosecutor Trisha Gerard said Jones remains a threat to the public as long as the children are missing. Carter didn't lower the bond.

Justice remains locked up in an Atlanta-area jail while he fights extradition. He was arrested two weeks ago.

Former NY Knicks point guard Raymond Felton pleaded guilty Wednesday in a Manhattan gun case, taking a plea deal that involved admitting a felony but spares him jail. Last winter, after Felton's law student wife filed for divorce, her attorney brought a loaded semi-automatic handgun to a police precinct and said it was Felton's and she wanted it out of the house, authorities said. Walden has said Felton never threatened anyone with the gun.
