NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

June 25, 2014 marks five years since pop icon Michael Jackson died from an overdose of a surgical anesthetic.

The King of Pop was preparing for his last tour of 50 sold-out concerts when he passed away in his Las Angeles home at the age of 50.

Michael Jackson and #RIPMichaelJackson were trending on social media on the fifth anniversary of his death.

Celebrities including longtime friend supermodel Naomi Campbell took to Instagram:

"I Miss you #MJ #RIP with #angels #kingofpop #loyalfriend #legend# #Icon #MichealJackson in our hearts… "http://instagram.com/p/pqnyNnI5uY/

On the day of his death and the following days fans gathered in places like the Apollo Theater in Harlem and outside Jackson's home in Los Angeles to pay tribute and remember the star.

The music icon's work has continued beyond the grave. His estate release Love Never Felt So Good, a duet with Justin Timberlake, earlier this year along with a posthumous album, Xscape.

Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for over-medicating his famous client who was said to be desperate to sleep.

Jackson's death was ruled a homicide.

The 'King of Pop's mother, Katherine, has permanent custody of Jackson's three children, Paris, Prince and Blanket.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
