Alpharetta Eatery Offers Hot Food, Hotter Dancing

A trip to Mexico might be a little too much for your summer vacation budget. But a trip to El Don Mexican Bar & Grill could be the perfect substitute.

The Operetta restaurant comes from cousins Chef Abe Colin, Jr. and Edgar Colin, both of whom wanted to share their culture through the food of their childhood. Chef Abe got his start in his grandparents' restaurant in Mexico, and has since worked in many different cities. Along with authentic Mexican dishes, El Don often brings in live music and opens a dance floor.

Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken stopped by El Don this morning to get a lesson in two kinds of salsa -- one made with fresh, inexpensive produce, and the other made on the dance floor! Check out the recipes below for some fun! Click the videos above to check it out!


Salsa Ranchera

  • 3lb fresh tomato
  • 1 chile arbol
  • 1 chile guajillo
  • 1/4 tea spoon oregano
  • 1/4 tea spoon salt

Boil the tomato, roast the arbol and guajillo peppers. blend it with all the ingredients.

Pico De Gallo

  • 3 tomatoes
  • 1/2 jalapeño
  • 1/2 diced onion
  • 1/4 cilantro
  • 1 table spoon of lime juice
  • 1 tea spoon of salt

Mix all ingredients on a big bowl. Enjoy authentic Mexican pico!

Tomatillo Salsa

  • 1 1/2 tomatillo
  • 1 guajillo pepper
  • 2 arbol pepper
  • 1 tea spoon of garlic
  • 1/2 cup dice onions
  • 1/2 cup cilantro
  • 1/2 table spoon salt
Roast the guajillo pepper and the arbol pepper.
Boil the tomatillo pepper.
Take the guajillo pepper and arbor pepper and the boiled tomatillo put in blender with other ingredients.

El Don Warm Salsa

  • 5 lb. fresh tomato
  • 1 fresh jalapeno
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 2 tea spoons of salt
  • 2 ancho pepppers
Put all ingredients on the grill until charred.
Blend all ingredients.
