PD: Man kills puppy during argument with fiance

A man was arrested after he allegedly threw a 3-week-old puppy on a concrete floor during a fight with his fiance. The puppy died shortly after the incident.

According to a police report, Juan Ramon Paredez and his fiance were having a fight at an apartment near Central and Broadway on Sunday.

Paredez told police he was angry because the kitchen was dirty and several items were broken in the apartment.

During the argument, Paredez reportedly grabbed a puppy named Bandit out of a large basket full of Chihuahua-mix puppies and threw him on the concrete floor.

At one point during the argument, the report also states Paredez threw a large TV.

The woman's son was at the apartment during the incident. The woman called police and told them her fiance allegedly killed her puppy.

Paredez allegedly told officers he tried to pick up Bandit and attempted to give him a kiss, but the dog fell out of his hand. Although he attempted to catch him, he fell and was apparently pushed harder into the ground on accident.

He was arrested and faces one count of intentional cruel mistreatment of an animal.

    The New York City Department of Health has issued an alert after two babies were diagnosed with neonatal herpes this month after undergoing a ritual Jewish circumcision called metzitzah b'peh.  In this type of circumcision the mohel sucks blood directly from the infant's cut penis.  The infants need to be hospitalized and treated with intravenous acyclovir.
