PHILADELPHIA -

The summer is off to a violent start with a weekend erupting in gunfire across the city leaving three people dead.

Fox 29's Dave Kinchen is live at police headquarters where detectives are searching for the clues and suspects.

A hail of gunfire rocked the 1900 block of 69th Avenue in West Oak Lane Sunday afternoon. Police say a 21-year-old man died. According to police, he was shot at 15 times at point blank range.

"Like it was an automatic or something like that. One of them kind of guns,” said one witness. "We was just told to get down on the ground, get down on the floor, and that's what we did until the gunshots was over."

This unidentified man says he then found the dying victim in a back alley and tried to help.

"I grabbed the middle part, around his lower back area to help lift him, the cop me, and another young man, they got him in the car and took him away," he said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

That victim was the third person to be killed within a violent 24 hour period in Philadelphia.

On Saturday night, shell casings littered the ground after two teens were hit by gunfire during a barbeque on the 700 block of West Montgomery Avenue in North Philadelphia. A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed while a 19-year-old was injured in that incident.

A stray bullet hit a police vehicle in that shooting;however, no officers were inside at the time.

Also, in North Philadelphia, a man was shot multiple times after an argument at  Rising Sun and Germantown Avenue. The victim was hospitalized and pronounced dead in that shooting and the suspect is still at large.

On the 5500 block of North American Street in North Philadelphia, 2 shootings took place, including an incident where, police say, a man was shot at 8 times, hit in the leg by a man who allegedly asked about the sale of pills in the area.

That victim treated was treated at Einstein Hospital. No arrests have been made in that shooting.

And on the 1300 block of McKinley street in Oxford Circle, a 17-year-old boy was shot twice in the backside while inside this home.

He was taken to the hospital. Police are still searching for the shooter.

Going off to college is an exciting time for the entire family, especially for the upcoming freshman. But with technology, parents can be in touch all the time. What's too much and what's just enough? Freshman move-in day seems to be harder on the parents than the students at Stony Brook University.
