Serious hit-and-run closes the Agua Fria

Posted: Updated:

Officers with DPS, Phoenix Police, and Glendale Police have captured a man who caused a serious accident on southbound 101 that closed the freeway at Olive for most of the evening Saturday.

According to DPS, around 4:30pm a man driving a green Dodge Stratus entered the 101 on Olive and swerved across all lanes of traffic, cutting off a motorcycle. The Stratus then sped away and got into another accident at 99th Ave and Glendale. The driver, dressed all in black, ran away into a cornfield southeast of the intersection.

The suspect was hiding in the cornfield for several hours before being taken into custody. DPS says they are not yet ruling out DUI.

The motorcycle rider was transported to the hospital in critical condition where he was later upgraded to serious condition. The freeway opened around 9pm.

Incidentally, the TV show COPS is embedded with Glendale Police and they were on scene during the search and capture. Those episodes are expected to begin airing on July 12th.
