Phoenix Police Department lieutenant caught in prostitution sting

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

A Phoenix Police lieutenant has been arrested, caught in a prostitution bust.

He's been a member of the department for more than two decades but now he could find himself behind bars.

He's not a patrol officer but rather a lieutenant with 25 years on the force.

John Geroulis probably arrested several people for prostitution during his career but now he's the one who has to face those charges.

Glendale Police say one of their officers was working undercover, acting as a prostitute when they came into contact with Geroulis.

He was arrested Thursday night and has been accused of soliciting sex.  They say he even made unwanted contact with the officer so now he is facing a charge of sexual abuse as well.  He was released and the case will be review by the Maricopa County Attorney.

Phoenix Police are not commenting on the charges, but they did say that Lt. Geroulis retired from the department on June 19th, 2014.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
