Anti gun activists deliver postcards to Sen. Flake's office

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Gun violence survivors visited the office of Arizona Senator Jeff Flake delivering postcards the group gathered from across the nation with the words "Not On More" written on them.

The group marched into Senator Jeff Flake's office carrying boxes of postcards, the group said they had amassed close to 10,000 postcards.

Erica Lafferty's mother Dawn was the principal shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary. She's part of the campaign who deliver postcards to members of congress across the country.

"This is something that really matters, literally it's a matter of life and death, I've dedicated the rest of my life to ensure that no one has to feel the pain that I feel every day," said Lafferty.

Richard Martinez's son Christopher was killed in the Santa Barbara shooting rampage. Less than one month later he says he is fed up with inaction.

"After my son was shot there were three other shootings, this is becoming a way of life, what other country in the world puts up with this," he said.

Flake was not there to meet with the group, but they asked him to support universal background checks. It's legislation that Flake's office said Congress doesn't have the votes to pass.

Flake said he would support a bill to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.

"What we are hoping is he decides to vote on the side of public safety... we are just asking him to vote on behalf of his constituents and on behalf of this country," said Lafferty.
