"Fake" gun wielding man shot, killed

Posted: Updated:

A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in DeKalb County overnight.

It happened at the Alden Ridge Apartment complex in Clarkston around midnight.

Police say they were called to the apartments because a man was walking around banging on doors, all over the complex.

When police arrived they approached the man and he brandished a weapon. Authorities say they asked him to drop his weapon. After he refused, police shot him.

The perpetrator was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later died. Authorities later determined his gun was a "prop", but officers say the man was carrying several knives at the time of the shooting.

The officer was placed on administrative leave with pay.

A spokesperson for the Alden Ridge apartment complex released a statement on Friday saying:

"Alden Ridge is cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigation of this incident. The security of our residents is of the utmost concern to us, and as we cooperate with the investigation, we will evaluate ways to improve the safety of our community."

The identity of the suspect has not been released, at this time.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
