Summer heat has arrived - New York News

Summer heat has arrived

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - It has been a slow start to our meteorological summer in terms of heat and humidity.

May was the first month since October of 2013 to see the average temperature above normal.

Since Father’s Day (June 15th), Chicago’s 7 day forecast has 7 days with highs 80 degrees or higher. That has not happened since the week of August 24-30th of 2013.

So far this year, Chicago’s O’Hare has seen only 2 days at 90 degrees or higher. Last year O’Hare saw 13 days at 90 degrees or higher.

Midway has already seen 4 days in the 90s and Northerly Island 0 days at 90 or higher.

The average number of days 90 or higher at O’Hare is 18. Midway averages 21 days 90 or higher with Northerly Island at 10 days.

Unfortunately this “mini” heat wave will come to an end as the week moves on. Temperatures for days 8-14 look to be near normal with near normal precipitation.
