Multiple Arrests Made In Joint Task Force Gang Sweep

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) The FBI are presiding over "dozens'' of arrests made by a Joint Task Force investigating violent crimes, including "multiple murders,'' committed by Los Angeles area gang members and associates. Also on hand are representatives of the LAPD, the U.S. Attorney's office, the Los Angeles City Attorney's office, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

This task force made up of local police and federal agents were out on a sweep this morning, serving arrest warrants in neighborhoods near the LA Sports Arena.

From Bob DeCastro:

Law-enforcement declares a major victory against a South LA gang.

Officials say the "Broadway Gangster Crips" controlled and terrorized the Broadway corridor neighborhood near skid Row.

50 suspected members were booked on charges of robbery, extortion and drug trafficking. A federal indictment also alleges the gang members were behind 4 murders.

The three-year multi agency investigation culminated with a series of predawn raids. More than 1,300 FBI agents and LAPD officers rounded up suspects.

A cache of weapons... also seized in the operation.

Authorities are still searching for eight more suspected gangsters. All the defendants face mandatory minimum sentences of 10 years in federal prison if convicted. Many face potential sentences of life without parole.

The U.S. Open is underway in Queens and there's no denying that many of the players, both men and women, are in great physical shape and know how to play that up. Women are particularly promoted in the industry as attractive, fashionable and fiercely competitive. Does that help the game and draw more people in?
