Police: Driver flees traffic stop, dies in crash

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (AP) -- State police say a driver who sped away following an attempted traffic stop in Detroit has died after colliding with a suspected drunken driver's vehicle.

A statement from police says troopers saw the driver of a sport utility vehicle failing to obey a stop sign and not wearing a seat belt about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police determined the SUV's temporary paper license plate wasn't valid and tried to stop the motorist.

Police say the driver took off and collided with a car. Police say the SUV's driver was ejected and died at the scene. The other motorist, identified as a 22-year-old man from Wayne, was taken to a hospital for treatment but could face drunken driving charges.

Names of those involved weren't immediately released. The crash is under investigation.
