Police: 13-Year-Old Boy Shot Over Stolen Bike In South Philadelphia

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA - Police say they are searching for an alleged gunman and at least another suspect in connection with the shooting of a 13-year-old boy in South Philadelphia on Monday.

SWAT teams swarmed around a house on the 2000 block of Mountain Street after investigators said two men were holed up inside.

Cops say they found a bag filled with guns inside the property.

“Police covered the front and the back and they declared this a barricade because we believed that we had an active shooter inside this property,” said  Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small

Philadelphia Police sources say the men ran to the house after the gunman fired several shots into the passenger side of a Chevy Impala at the intersection of 20th and Morris Streets.

The boy was struck in the shoulder and backside, police say, it was all over a stolen bike.

"However, the bike that was stolen belonged to the 13-year-old boy who was shot. Not only was his bike stolen yesterday, but today he was shot," said Small

Police say a Major Crimes detective saw the whole incident and followed the gunman to the Mountain Street home while the boy's stepfather drove him towards their home on Hemberger Street.

"Turns out, there was no one inside the property. The property had been cleared," said Small.

The boy is in stable condition at CHOP.

At this hour, police say they are interviewing a person of interest. According to police, the person of interest is the owner of the house where the barricade took place. They do not know if he was involved in the shooting.
