Gardening 101

When it comes to a first-time gardener, it’s sometimes best to start from the ground-up!

Step 1: Soil Prep

  • It’s important to mix in some organic matter to add nutrients and help get the plants started

Step 2: Determine your Sunlight

  • Your plants will determine on how much sun your garden gets
  • Figure out whether you have full sun, partial sun or shade

Step 3: Pick out your Plants!

  • Now that the groundwork is laid, you’re ready to start planting!
  • Consider your house and which plants will compliment your home’s style and color scheme
  • When you are picking out your plants, be sure to read the label (it tells you how big they will grow, sunlight needs and water requirements)

Step 4: Place the Plants

  • Dig your hole twice as wide as the root ball

Step 5: Mulch, mulch, mulch!

  • Mulching is very important because it helps plants retain water

Step 6: Amp Up the Curb Appeal

  • Add in rocks and other elements to really give your garden that wow factor!

Step 7: Water

  • Water thoroughly, especially in the beginning
  • The plans have yet to develop their root system yet, so this is crucial for healthy growth
