NYC ice cream and gelato to try this summer

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

One can never eat enough ice cream in the summer time. So when you're craving a delicious frozen treat here are two new parlors to try.

Ample Hills Creamery makes every scoop, every cone and just about every topping completely from scratch. That passionate, old-fashioned approach is how Brian and Jackie earned the unofficial title of Brooklyn's favorite ice cream parlor. Everyone can't get enough of their wildly complex flavors.

Double up on the good stuff with a mouthwatering sundae. It all starts with a classic brownie base or the life-altering ooey gooey butter cake.

For a low-fat frozen treat, try the Italian take on ice cream at L'Arte del Gelato in Chelsea Market.

The main differences between ice cream and gelato: gelato is much less fat than ice cream, says Sicilian-born Francesco.

Francesco knows firsthand what authentic gelato should taste like. Now he's passing his trade secrets on to me.
