Latest On Tracy Morgan’s Condition

Posted: Updated:
New Brunswick, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Over the weekend actor and comedian Tracy Morgan was involved in a tragic accident on the New Jersey Turnpike that claimed the life of one passenger and left him in critical condition at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Morgan’s publicist, Lewis Kay, has been communicating with fans to let them know what exactly is going on with his recovery. At this time Morgan remains in critical condition, but has been more responsive after undergoing surgery on his leg and he called this an “encouraging sign”.

Aside from a broken leg, Morgan also endured a broken femur, broken nose and broken ribs. He is not expected to be released from the hospital anytime soon.

In addition to updating everyone on Morgan’s condition, Kay has also expressed the family’s gratitude towards the outpouring of support that people have shown during this very sad time. The hospital has also asked that the press remain on the opposite side of the hospital in order to maintain some privacy for the family and loved ones of the actor.

At the Middlesex County Courthouse, a criminal complaint was filed against the driver of the Wal-Mart truck that collided with Morgan’s vehicle, Kevin Roper. He has since been charged with vehicular homicide for, “operating a vehicle recklessly causing the death of James “Jimmy Mack” McNair” and several counts of vehicular assault in the cases of Tracy Morgan, Jeff Miller and Artie Fuqua Jr. It is alleged that Roper had not slept for over 24 hours before getting into the accident.

Roper’s arraignment will take place on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00pm.

Local law enforcement and the NTSB are still investigating what exactly happened early Saturday morning that caused such a devastating accident.

Walmart President Bill Simon issued a statement confirming that the company “will take full responsibility” if authorities determine one of their trucks caused the accident. Now it must be determined if Roper’s alleged time awake was a result of a work schedule or his own doing.

Dish Nation Host Rickey Smiley is a friend of Morgan’s and he chimed in to talk about the outpouring of support for the actor who he says is down to earth.

“Tracy Morgan don’t act like a celebrity. You see Tracy Morgan in the streets, Tracy Morgan don’t walk around with bodyguards and none of that stuff. What you see on TV, that’s what you get man with Tracy Morgan. And I just want everybody to pray for Tracy Morgan and keep him lifted up in your prayers,” he said.

Governor Christie also spoke out about the accident on one of New Jersey’s busiest roadways.

“The reports that I’ve heard is that it may be that a truck driver fell asleep behind the wheel. You know there is nothing the police can do about someone falling asleep behind the wheel. What we should all understand that we have personal responsibility when we get behind the wheel. Whether it’s behind the wheel of a truck or automobile or motorcycle, that if you’re that tired you need to pull over and get some sleep. And when we see if that in fact is what the facts turn out to be as they have been reported already, is that innocent people can lose their lives and can be significantly injured as a result,” he said.

Any additional information will come directly from Morgan’s publicist and be posted on his Facebook page.

17 year-old Kristen Towkaniuk has been leading the charge to help change Newark’s public schools. She wants the local administration to regain control of their public schools, not the state. This after Governor Christie recently appointed new Superintendent Cami Anderson. Yesterday, Towkaniuk chased the Governor down to Belmar, New Jersey where he was addressing a crowd during the latest stop of his “No Pain, No Gain summer conversation tour”.

LL Cool J stays true to hip hop roots

EXCLUSIVE -- LL Cool J grew and evolved from a hip hop artist out of Hollis, Queens, to a Hollywood TV and movie star. But he always stayed true to hip hop culture. We'd see him backstage at concerts just hanging out with us, so when I heard he was back in New York for the summer I had to find out why. I tracked him down to a Midtown Manhattan recording studio for this exclusive interview.
