Local businesses to benefit from Cobb Co. sports boom

KENNESAW, Ga. -

The north metro area expects a wider world of sports in the next three years. The Braves will move to Cobb County. An enormous youth sports complex will open just north in Emerson. Kennsaw State University’s winning baseball team will be joined by a football team.

Drew Tonsmeire is the Area Director for the Small Business Development Center at Kennesaw State University. He says, “Anyone of those things is a great trigger, but when all three happen at the same time, there will be lots of opportunities that come out of that.”

Alec Kozicki, owner of Kozicki Sports, hopes to cash in on the sports expansion. The longtime player and fan is ready to sell a baseball glove that he developed. Kozicki, who custom makes the gloves and wants to set his production in Marietta says,“I never thought I’d be making gloves right down the street from where the Braves play.”

Tonsmiere says sports will also generate tourism and transportation needs. He says opportunities are there for existing businesses to expand and for new businesses to find a foothold. He also says young entrepreneurs like kozicki can succeed if they have the buyers for their product or service and if they are willing to work hard, especially in the face of obstacles.

Kozicki is ready to face the challenge head on and says he has put blood , sweat and tears into making the custom baseball gloves. Now, he’s ready to sell his glove to players so they can, “make their own memories and put in their own blood sweat and tears.”
