Firefighter stages fake fire scene to propose to police officer girlfriend

Posted: Updated:
HOUSTON (FOX 13) -

An 11-year veteran of the Houston Fire Department has pulled off one of the most epic marriage proposals of all time.

Jesse Gonzalez staged a fake fire knowing his girlfriend and Houston Police Officer, Olga, would show up to the scene. It's not uncommon for them to meet out in the field while helping the community.

This time, however, things ended much differently.

He posted a 9-minute video of the entire thing on YouTube, and it's hot on the web right now. Several of his co-workers helped out, dressing in full gear and producing the fake fire scene at a residence.

They used smoke machines and speakers to give it the look and feel of a real fire scene.

Minutes after they arrived with a fire truck, Olga showed up in a police vehicle, and that's when Jesse gives her the surprise of her life.

The Fire Department said Jesse got special permission to pull the stunt. The firefighters were in their designated area and were required to monitor radio at the time, in case a real emergency happened.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
