Wisconsin police investigating deaths of 2 people found in suitcases

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Police say two suitcases containing the remains of two people have been found in long grass near a road in southeastern Wisconsin.

Highway workers came across the suitcases Thursday as they mowed the grass in Geneva, about 50 miles southwest of Milwaukee, and moved them to the roadside, said town Police Chief Steven Hurley.

It's a murder mystery unfolding in a town not used to seeing this kind of thing. Longtime residents were shocked. Even seasoned and retired police officers were surprised.

“We saw squad cars, and ambulance and trucks everywhere,” said Ken Weiss.

Before moving to Geneva, Weiss spent 30 years in law enforcement in Illinois. This is the last place he expected to see a homicide investigation underway.

Hurley said they are looking for leads with help from other agencies.

“The Walworth County Sheriff is assisting us,” he said. “There is not much more I can tell you at this time.”

Police are being tight lipped on the details, but detectives were seen knocking on doors trying to get some answers or witness as to how the luggage ended up there. They are also reviewing missing person's reports to see if anything comes up.

Meanwhile, autopsies on the victims' decomposing bodies are complete, but no information is being released. Still, the police chief wants to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and that there are no concerns for any of the residents.

NYPD probing raising of white flags at Brooklyn Bridge

The NYPD is investigating a major security breach at the Brooklyn Bridge, one of the most highly secured landmarks in New York City. Two white flags — international symbols of surrender — fluttered from poles on the stone supports that hold cables above the bridge connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan. The flags had a faint appearance of the stars and stripes. The American flags that are normally up at the bridge appeared to have been removed.
