Dad who encouraged son to fight arrested

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The father of an 11-year-old boy who was caught on video encouraging his son to beat up a classmate on Staten Island was arrested.

Alberto Figueroa, 42, of Staten Island, was charged on Tuesday with 'acting in a manner injurious to a child younger than 17 years old.'

In the cell phone video captured by students at P.S. 60, Figueroa is heard telling his son to punch the other boy.

"Right now. Punch him in the face. No, no. Turn around and do it again," said Figueroa.

The after-school fight between the 5th grade students at the Alice Austen School occurred on May 14.

The video went viral with students sharing the clip on Facebook and other social media.

Figueroa appeared before a judge and was issued a desk appearance ticket. It is not clear when he is due back in court.

The Department of Education said the school's principal met with the student who threw the punches and he is now facing disciplinary action.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
