Movie theaters discounting unsold seats

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

With an endless amount of streaming content at home, some people need an extra incentive to get to the movies. A few theaters in Brooklyn think they may have the answer: discounted tickets for unsold seats.

A regular ticket might cost you $15. Not to mention all that popcorn and sweets. So Kenn Lowy, owner and operator of the Brooklyn Heights Cinema, is embracing a new concept. He is allowing an outside company to offer unused tickets to people at a discounted rate of up to 60 percent off.

California-based DealFlicks works with theaters throughout the country, including at least 4 in Brooklyn. DealFlicks owner Sean Wycliffe says it's like the Priceline of movie tickets.

Lowy estimates it is helping him sell at least 50 seats a month. He hoping that number will rise this summer.

A quick browse of the site on Wednesday morning showed tickets at up to half-off for the Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore movie Blended and 45% off of a 3D showing of X-Men Days of Future Past.
