NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - A kitten covered in lice and with eye damage was rescued by a Good Samaritan from a dumpster on Long Island.

The woman says she heard cries and found the tiny kitten on Thursday night in Freeport.

The four-week-old fur ball named 'was was taken to the Bobbi & the Strays shelter where veterinarians will care for the kitten named 'Jessie' until she is ready to be adopted.

The no-kill shelter is holding an open house on Saturday from 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. for all other adoptable pets.

All adoption fees will be waived.

Bobbi & the Strays is located at 2 Rider Place.
