NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) - One construction worker was killed and another was injured during a ceiling collapse in Maplewood, N.J., said fire officials.

Emergency personnel rushed to 177 Maplewood Avenue on Friday morning where the ceiling in the basement inside the Coda Kitchen and Bar came crashing down.

Video from SkyFoxHD showed firefighters removing at least one person from the basement and placing that person onto a stretcher. 

The workers were reportedly in the process of installing a staircase when the collapse occurred at about 9 a.m.

The injured worker was listed in serious condition, said fire officials.

Several businesses along Maplewood Ave. were cordoned off.

Maplewood is located in Essex County. The emergency activity is focused around several businesses on Maplewood Ave. and Baker St.
