MYFOXNY.COM - The New York Rangers are one step closer to making an appearance in the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 20 years.

An incredible game at the Garden saw the 'Blue Shirts' take out 'the Habs' in overtime.
Martin St. Louis came through big time for the Rangers as he scored the game-winning goal for New York in overtime to beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 taking a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference finals.

The Rangers played an unusually undisciplined game that saw them take a whopping nine penalties, seven of which came in the offensive zone.

That lack of discipline allowed P.K. Subban to help tie up the game 2-2 early in the third period, cashing in on the Habs' 6th power-play of the game.

There were some scary moments for New York fans, as Pouliot caused a penalty for the Rangers just 30 seconds into the overtime period, drawing the ire of thousands in attendance at MSG.

The Rangers’ penalty-killing efforts paid off though, allowing them to escape unscathed.

In the end, New York fans went berserk as the Rangers, who don't usually fare too well in overtime when it comes to the playoffs, were triumphant and are now one win away from the Stanley Cup finals.

The next game takes place at Montreal on Tuesday.
